OCEAN LITERACY
OCEAN LITERACY COURSECCMI is proud to be working with the Cayman Island Government in developing an Ocean Literacy course for teaching Key Stage 2 (9-11 year old) students. The idea is to create an educational, interesting, and fun course through which Cayman Island children can learn about the ocean in geographical, oceanographical, and biological terms, with special emphasis on items of Cayman Island interest.
The ocean literacy course is based on a set of 7 essential principles defined by NOAA and the National Geographic Society in conjunction with teachers and other educators. Each principle is supported by fundamental concepts comparable to those underlying the U.S. National Science Education Standards (NSES).
