Our Ocean Planet Create OOP Manual Teacher Resources

 
"Ocean literacy" is an understanding of the ocean's influence on you and your influence on the ocean. Ocean literacy is based upon 7 essential principles, each of which is, in turn, composed of several fundamental concepts that relate to the principle. These principles and concepts were initially compiled by people in several organizations including the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Geographic Society (NGS) in conjunction with teachers and other educators.

CCMI is proud to be working with the Cayman Islands Department of Education (DOE) to develop an ocean science course based on ocean literacy principles and concepts through which Cayman Islands school children can learn about the ocean in geographical, oceanographical and biological terms. Materials for this course currently consists of a freely-downloadable teacher's manual entitled "Our Ocean Planet". In addition, there are other teacher training materials and resources to help K-12 teachers.
