  Nov/17/2008 - Festival Of Trees | Shines
CCMI'S annual fundraiser, the Festival of Trees, is a display of beautifully decorated Christmas trees and holiday wreaths. Each tree and wreath is auctioned off with the proceeds going to support CCMI's work on Cayman's reefs.
 
  Nov/11/2008 - ICON Project News (Winter 2008)
The CCMI & NOAA ICON station is scheduled to arrive at the LCRC at the end of January, 2009 for installation in February, 2009.
 
  Nov/09/2008 - Weakening Storm Paloma Hits Cuba
Thanks to all of you who were concerned about Hurricane Paloma's effects on us. All our employees are fine but the LCRC sustained some water and wind damage. The full extent and cost of the damage is being assessed.
 
  Oct/29/2008 - Our Ocean Planet Launch
CCMI's ocean literacy program and ocean science teaching manual ('Our Ocean Planet') were launched at a reception hosted by Greenlight Reinsurance, Ltd. The reception was attended by government officials, teachers, and sponsors.
 
  Oct/14/2008 - 'Cayman Went'
CCMI scientists were invited to enjoy the NY premiere of the movie 'Cayman Went'. Proceeds raised from a raffle held at the premiere for a free trip for two to Little Cayman from the Dept. of Tourism were generously donated to CCMI.
 
  Oct/2008 - Eco-Weekends For Cayman Public H/S
The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman has generously funded a series of 5 eco-weekends over 2008-2009 that allow Cayman Island Public High School students to visit LCRC and learn about marine ecology & conservation.

CCMI is pleased to announce the initial release of "Our Ocean Planet" - a teaching manual for ocean science. The creation of the manual was generously sponsored by Greenlight Reinsurance, Ltd.

United Kingdom Members of Parliament visit the Sister Islands and stop to see the Little Cayman Research Center.
 
  Aug/05/2008 - Service club commits to make dreams real
The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman is teaming up with the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) to provide scholarships for youths interested in the environment and conservation.
 
  Jul/18/2008 - Protecting Cayman's Reefs
Owen Foster is one of three winners of the CCMI / Ogier Environmental Essay competition. He is a 17-year-old student of the Cayman International School.
 
  Jun/25/2008 - Deep Reef Project
CCMI has initiated the "Deep Reef" project, which uses a ROV called "Little Tyche" to begin a photographic study of the deep reef walls off Little Cayman between 20-160 m (66-525 ft).

  May/22/2008 - Giant squid recovered, preserved
CCMI reported that a giant squid, over 7 ft (2.5m) in length, and now the fourth specimen known from the North Atlantic, has been recovered and is being preserved at the Little Cayman Research Center for further study.
 
  Apr/07/2008 - ICON Project News (Spring 2008)
Construction of the CCMI-NOAA ICON Monitoring Station has begun with the installation of the base plate and pins. More work still needs to be done but we expect to be online later this year. Check out the work done so far.
 
  Apr/2008 - Art Auction To Benefit CCMI
Artist Scott Goldy was commissioned by CCMI to create an underwater montage of the reefs behind the Little Cayman Research Center. Beginning April 1st, this beautiful work and other art will be auctioned to benefit CCMI.
 
  Feb/27/2008 - Little Cayman Reefs Show Resilience
Coral reefs around Little Cayman have almost completely recovered from a 2005 ocean warming event that caused the most extreme coral bleaching and mortality ever seen in the wider Caribbean.
 
  Feb/24/2008 - Search for Invasive Species
Bad news! A lionfish was spotted on a Little Cayman reef. To respond, we have set up a Dive With A Researcher program to look for these invaders and and study the impact of this species on native species.
 
  Jan/2008 - CCMI & NOAA ICON Monitoring Station
CCMI and NOAA are partnering to place a monitoring station in Little Cayman within Bloody Bay Marine Park in April 2008 as part of a global effort to monitor and study coral reefs worldwide.
