THINGS TO DO

THINGS TO DO
Most of Little Cayman's best activities and sights are outdoor and water-based.

  SCUBA DIVING
Little Cayman is probably most renowned for its reefs and the spectacular scuba diving found offshore. There are numerous species of fishes and corals, along with lagoon, wall and deep ocean habitats. Sharks and rays are often seen as well as a variety of other fishes. There are also many species of invertebrates, including crustaceans, echinoderms and cnidarians.

Famous dive sites are found along Jackson's Bight and Bloody Bay. The reefs have been part of a zoned marine protected area for over 25 years.

  SNORKELING
While many of our researchers and professionals necessarily have to be able to dive in order to carry out their research, many of our younger visitors do not dive.

Irrespective or whether or not you dive, there are many wonderful sites available for snorkeling and swimming, such as the area just off the Little Cayman Research Center, Jackson's Bight, and Bloody Bay.

  KAYAKING
The waters just offshore are protected by the reef and are ideal for a quiet afternoon's paddle in a kayak.

Most modern kayaks are made of polyethylene. They are completely open and rigid, and allow people to simply sit on top and move using a double-bladed paddle. They are about 12 ft long and weigh 50 lb, and can be for one or two people.

  BEACHES
The Little Cayman beaches are white sand beaches that are formed mainly from crushed coral.

Some of our most beautiful and well-known can be found at Point of Sand and Owen Island.

Mind the sun, though! There's not much shade on many of our beaches.

  BOOBY POND NATURE RESERVE
The Cayman Islands National Trust operates the Booby Pond Nature Reserve and Little Cayman Visitor Center on Little Cayman.

The Booby Pond Nature Reserve is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of Red-footed Boobies in the Western Hemisphere.

The Reserve also contains Cayman's only breeding colony of Magnificent Frigate birds.
